About Ancient Olympia

Olympia is  located 36 Kms from Katakolon and it is one of the most beautiful and historic archaeological sites of Ancient Greece. The sanctuary seats on plane with unique vegetation and very old trees, on the foothills of the mount Kronos, surrounded by many other picturesque hills as well as two rivers, Alfhios and Kladeos. Next to them is the small modern town with 1300 inhabitants, but is full of souvenir shops ,coffee shops, and tavernas serving greek food. Olympia is 22 km. away from the capital city Pyrgos and 37 km from the port of katakolon. Following the main road from the port to get there, someone needs to spend about 30 min. of driving, passing other little villages on the way, as well as many beautiful olive – groves and wine yards.
